Second Opinions & Revision Care

If a shoulder or elbow operation did not turn out the way you hoped, or you have been told you need surgery and want another opinion, Dr. Joshi can review your history, imaging and prior operative records and walk you through your options.

When a Second Opinion Can Help

  • You have been told you need shoulder or elbow surgery and want to be sure it is the right choice.
  • Pain, stiffness or weakness has not improved after a prior shoulder or elbow operation.
  • A shoulder replacement has become painful, loose or unstable.
  • A rotator cuff repair has failed or the tendon has torn again.
  • Your shoulder dislocates again after a stabilization procedure.
  • There is a concern about infection after surgery.

Revision surgery and the management of complications after prior operations are a focus of Dr. Joshi’s practice, including failed shoulder replacements, failed rotator cuff surgery, recurrent instability and infection.

How It Works

1

Book a visit

Book an in-person visit at any of the three offices, or start with a video visit to go over your history and records. Dr. Joshi will let you know if an in-person exam is needed.

2

Gather your records

  • Operative reports from every prior surgery on the shoulder or elbow
  • Implant records (the implant stickers or card from your surgery), if you had a replacement
  • Imaging from before and after your surgery, including X-rays, MRI or CT scans
  • Any lab results or culture reports, if infection was ever a concern
  • Physical therapy notes, if you have them
3

Review and plan

Dr. Joshi reviews your records, examines your shoulder or elbow and may order new imaging or tests. He then explains what he thinks is going on and every reasonable option, including nonsurgical ones, so you can decide on a plan together.
