Important information to review before your surgery to ensure a safe and successful procedure.
Before Your Surgery
- Complete all pre-operative testing as ordered (bloodwork, EKG, medical clearance)
- Stop blood thinners and anti-inflammatory medications as directed
- Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery
- Arrange for someone to drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (button-up shirts are helpful)
- Leave jewelry and valuables at home
- Bring your insurance cards and photo ID
- Bring a list of your current medications
Prepare Your Home
- Set up a comfortable recovery area (recliner or bed with extra pillows)
- Stock up on easy-to-prepare meals and snacks
- Place frequently used items at waist level
- Remove trip hazards (rugs, cords, clutter)
- Have ice packs ready in the freezer
- Fill prescriptions before surgery if possible
- Consider a shower chair or handheld showerhead
- Prepare loose, comfortable clothing

What to Bring
- Photo ID and insurance cards
- Completed patient forms (or arrive 15 minutes early)
- List of current medications
- Any imaging studies (X-rays, MRI) on CD or uploaded to portal
- Referral from your primary care physician (if required)
- Notes about your symptoms and questions for Dr. Joshi
During Your Visit
- Review of your medical history and symptoms
- Physical examination of your shoulder or elbow
- Review of imaging studies
- Discussion of diagnosis and treatment options
- Opportunity to ask questions
- Development of a personalized treatment plan
After Your Visit
- Schedule any recommended follow-up appointments
- Obtain referrals for physical therapy if prescribed
- Schedule imaging studies if ordered

Dr. Joshi participates with most major insurers, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, EmblemHealth, Medicare, Medicaid, Oxford, and UnitedHealthcare. See every accepted plan.
